Sandy’s 7 Ultimate Tips for Conquering Spring Semester 2019

Welcome to the second semester guys! You made it through semester 1! Here you are so fast, and so soon!
Before the semester really blooms, and before your semester grind begins, here are a few ever fresh points to keep in mind in order to achieve a successful start and end to the spring semester of 2019.
Welcome to Apoetsbrain. Happy reading 🙂

0. Keep God first place always, all the time, every single day and in every single decision.

1. Attend all classes

Don’t miss them if you can afford not to. While at it, for postgraduates (and you ambitious undergrads) start developing research ideas from each lecture. Keep your ears open to receive good ideas from different discussions that ensue in lecture. Have somewhere where you write down interesting research topics that you can later work on.

2. Endeavour to get good sleep throughout the semester.

Don’t skimp on those seven-eight hours of necessary sleep. The dis-benefit of sleeping at 3 am, and waking at 10.15 am to catch a 10.20 am lecture becomes quite evident over time. For some majors, you may never catch up to the things you missed at the beginning without some serious extra effort at the library or in your room, with google and YouTube as your new professors.

3. Avoid negative self talk! Believe you will have a successful semester from the start.
Avoid the negative self talk. Avoid complaining about anything. Do not complain about your work load, research, or even how busy and tiring life is (winks at PhD students lol). It can indeed get jam-packed and start feeling like we are in over our heads. However, it is a matter of positive thinking and speaking. When others complain about their teachers, classmates, workload, life… let it not be a part of your conversation. You will be amazed how things gradually shift around you to fit your positive visions and forward thinking mindset.

4. Endeavor to publish something. Alone and or with others.
For Postgraduate, Graduate and even undergraduate Freshmen, if you haven’t already, start publishing anything you have worked on. Start working on anything. Just start somewhere. Google and YouTube are your best friends so get a VPN connection that can guide you to getting good journal papers to read. Don’t forget, a positive relationship with your supervisor is paramount. It is a wisdom thing. Go the extra mile to understand him or her. Be nice to all your teachers, lecturers, professors, and members of staff on the way.

5. Studying is not easy, but all things are possible with God!
People can, have, and do fall into depression along the way, so I return to point 0. Have something bigger than yourself and your intelligence and skills and all that you are. It could be a good time to learn more about who God is if you have no clue and even delve into why you may or may not feel God exists. It is always such good sport for theists and atheists alike.

6. Do not underestimate the need for extracurricular activities
Don’t just seat in your room. There is far more to life in China or any country you find yourself than being a ‘student’. It will be so sad if at the end of the day all you can say about your life in China or any country you traveled to for study, is that you came out of it with a certificate and record hours in lecture halls staring at your professors daily.

7. Stay extra focused and prioritize.

Working while studying is not a bad thing, but

Good luck with the new semester! May the Lord God be your strength!
