The Bridge of Life

The difference between us is not something that you can see.

Even if you take a careful look. No.

Can you see it? No.

It is not about our skin color.

No, it is not in the color of our eyes.

It is not about our gender. Nor is it about age.

It even has nothing to do with intellect.

Yet, believe me when I tell you that we are different. It is all in the mind you see.

For as you know, we are both standing on this bridge called life together.

While you yearn to make it successfully through to the end,

I yearn to jump off this ledge if just to put an end to all of this sorrow I feel.

Do you see? Can you understand our difference now?

Yet you rest your hand upon my shoulder and say: ‘Friend, I understand.’

With bewilderment, I laugh in bemusement. Wondering if you have gone deaf.

Yet you refuse to let me go. You hold on to me in a comforting hug.

Whispering words of wisdom, words of courage, words of hope.

Words that sound too good to be true.

With tears dripping down my cheeks, I hear you whisper to me;

“‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.

Before you were born, I sanctified you.’

‘In this world, you will have trouble.

But be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.’

Yes, ‘I am with you even till the end of the age.’

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
