Poem: Another Love

I want a love that never dies.
Love that is not restless and full of lies. Not a love that is proud and full of contempt.
You told me that you love me. Yet i see that your love is selfish.

Your love is just there so you can get a good sleep at night.

Your love has no concern for my joy.
Your love has no concern for my peace of mind.
Your love is in the knowledge you derive from authority.
Your love is one that only pushes to prosperity.
It does not taste of sweetness.

It tastes of grease.

Your love is like the scrapping of a nail across the wall.
It is like the sound of a machine ridden with friction.
Your love does not taste like honey. It tastes like scented candle wax.

It does not feel like home, it feels like faux pas.

Yet, i did gain a lot from your brand of love.
From your temperamental love i learnt to control my temperament.
From your insensitivity i learnt to be sensitive.
From your earnest pride and thirst for power, i learnt the art of subtlety and humility.
From your many words, i listened for silences.
From your silences i heard a thousand words.

From your manipulation i learnt resistance.

Now however, i am venturing into a new love.
I am panting to achieve a love that never dies.
A love that is not selfish. A love that is not manipulative.
A love that is mutual. A love that understands. Not a love that is always right, or a love that dies at the blink of an eye.
I need a love that is powerful. One that can’t be shaken. A love that is proud but humble. subtle but sweet. One that tastes like honey and berries. Not of grease and dust.

  1. Experiences like these usually leave you emotionally bruised and choosing to leave with only opposite of every negative thing you went through takes both strength and immense self love. Beautiful poem, love it:))

    1. Thank you for reading. You are really right. It indeed takes great strength to overcome some types of emotional trauma. Most of all it takes greater strength to not reproduce the same errors we experienced on others.
